Please tell me you know where the title is from. It would severely depress me if you don’t… and indeed if you don’t, go on YouTube and search for it. I’m trusting you here! The link is at the bottom.

Give Me One Reason – Tracy Chapman

If you loved it, you’re welcome. I told you so. If you don’t, keep reading this anyway. Begrudgingly, I would have to admit this article would be fun for you. For those of you who consider yourselves her fans, Tracy Chapman is someone I have no problem declaring my love for. Her music makes me tingle. This song makes me tingle… But let’s call a spade a spade. Or in this case, a fuckboy a fuckboy because baby, that right there is a fuck boy. How you gonna pour out your heart like that about how he’s fucking up and take ‘I told you that I love you and there ain’t no more to say’ as a serious response.

How would anyone in any possible scenario take that shit lying down? I kid you not, as God is my witness, if that ever, under any imaginable circumstance… I mean, first, let’s atrociously pretend for one second in some bizarre universe that, this were to happen to me, my only response would be to open the door, watch him leave and change the locks so this could never happen a second time. That’s the basic minimum I would do. That right there would be the last time you were hear from me. Clearly, she isn’t asking for much. A little time, a little attention. You say you love her, your actions need to reflect accordingly. You can’t love someone and leave them lonely if you can help it. What’s more upsetting is that her possibly accepting this flimsy reasoning, despite knowing well and true she needs someone to hold, that her heart is wary. The reason that this song frustrates me… I know where she comes from. Accepting half-ass generic statements to cushion herself from the actual truth. I’ve loved someone enough to tarnish myself waiting for him – that’s all I am ready to go into right now – because he claimed to love me. Old me would have sense knocked into her had I had the chance, but in life, things play out the way they do for a reason. So, TC, you wonderful Nightingale, you may want one reason to stay but consider this one reason to leave: you deserve your love. And there aint no more to say.
